- People who hear voices, and who experience realities not shared by others, including those who identify with diagnoses such as schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder.
- People who are engaging in mental health supports for the first time.
- Youth mental health (16-25)
- People who have or are currently experiencing mental health institutionalisation, including voluntary and involuntary treatment
- Suicidality and self-injury
What do I bring to counselling?
I work with people aged 16+ years and draw from a range of techniques/approaches. Some of the things you can expect working with me are:
- Peer Perspective/Lived and Living Experience approaches
- Strengths based approach
- Narrative therapy approach
- Person centred approach
- Humour and relaxed vibes
- Patience and kindness
Who do I support?
You might like working with me if you have never been to therapy before, or have tried therapy in the past and not found it helpful. Hearing about your journey with counselling, what you have loved, hated, found interesting, motivated you, or more, helps me to work alongside you to create a therapy space that actually works for you. If you have had trouble in the past being put into boxes that don’t define you, or are wanting a more accepting and flexible therapeutic approach outside of CBT, then I might be the person for you.
If you are queer and/or trans, neurodivergent, disabled, racialized, or engage in kink/BDSM/D/s community or relationships I would love to support you in therapy, I welcome all people with marginalised experiences and want to create a space where it is safe for you to be authentically you.
More about Emma…
I live with my nesting partner and our collection of animals in Naarm (Melbourne). I am neurodivergent, genderqueer, and ace-spectrum.
I am currently on a journey exploring my Deaf identity, and as a part of this I am learning Auslan. Unsurprisingly, learning a language is hard, but I am loving the freedom of communicating without the need for ears or speech! Providing non-speech based forms of communication in the therapy setting is something I am passionate about – this doesn’t have to be as extensive as using a whole other language in a session, but I always want to be communicating in the format that works best for the person. I welcome people to ask for the type of communication that works best for them including text based sessions (via zoom, discord, or other platforms) and the use of Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices.
I love to start (and not always finish) craft projects. I love reading, especially fanfiction and enjoy TTRPGs, including D&D. I am often seen wearing cute graphic t-shirts that are curated with help from my partner.
